Discover Jane Austen's Bath with Diana White
Discover the Bath Jane Austen knew and join writer and historian Diana White for a fascinating insight into life as a woman writer in Georgian England on this one night tour. Coinciding with the start of the city's award-winning Christmas Market, it is also a wonderful way to begin the festive season. You will be based at the 4* Francis Hotel, a boutique hotel occupying seven of the original 18th Century townhouses of the elegant Queen Square.
Day One - Friday 27th November
1400: Meet ECT staff and the rest of the group at the Francis Hotel and enjoy a Festive Afternoon Tea with bubbly
1545h: Guided walking tour of Jane Austen's bath, including The Circus, No.25 Gay Street, where Jane once stayed, and No.13 Queen's Square, home to her brother Edward.
1700 onwards: Free time to enjoy Bath Christmas Market
Day Two - Saturday 28th November
0900h: Breakfast at the hotel and check out
0945h: walk to No.1 Royal Crescent, a museum decorated and furnished just as it might have been during the period 1776-1796, to see their festive exhibition, 'A Georgian Christmas'.
1100h: Return to the hotel
1130h: Specialist Jane Austen talk with historian, writer and local guide Diana White, author or Jane Austen: The Life and Times of the Woman behind the Books. This fascinating talk will cover Jane Austen as a woman living in an era when woman were third class citizens, looking at her early life at Steventon, her first writings, the upheaval of moving to Bath, her time in the city and how she could only display her inherent feminism in her writings. Diana will also discuss life in Bath during this period and how Jane related to it.
Tea/coffee and biscuits will be served during the talk
